My husband wrote this yesterday, perhaps you can spread the word better than we can:

Heroes. This week, on the 20th anniversary of September 11th, 2001, we commemorate the events of that day, and in particular the actions of our heroic first responders, firefighters, police officers, and medics. While so many ran away from the Twin Towers and the Pentagon these heroes ran toward them, in hopes of saving lives. And they succeeded. Of the estimated fourteen thousand or more civilians in the Towers at the time of the first attack, well over ten thousand reached safety with the help of these heroes. At least four hundred of these heroes lost their lives that day so that so many others might live.

We are in the 20th month of the Covid crisis this month, and a no less dedicated group of heroes have been putting their lives at risk to save others. Healthcare workers in nursing homes, hospitals, clinics and other settings have been going into crowded, understaffed, and under equipped facilities in a daily struggle to save lives. They too have succeeded. Literally countless Covid victims are alive today because of these heroes. And again that success has come at great personal cost. The "Lost on the Frontline" project documented at least thirty-six hundred Covid deaths among U.S. healthcare heroes during the first year of the pandemic.

This time, there is something that the rest of us can do to help. If you ask someone on the Covid frontlines how to help, they only need two words.

"Get vaccinated."

Help a hero; be a hero.

A very sad day for women everywhere. This ban speaks to a much larger problem, the need for others to control women overall and in the most personal aspect of their lives. These same people who are so concerned about the unborn are the same people who want to deny or cut SNAP programs, who refuse to address the continuing onslaught of gun violence in our country, who want to keep immigrants who need help out of our country, who want to prevent the poor and people of color from exercising their right to vote... and on and on. The lack of humanity from this group seems never ending.

Absolutely! Must be pure white, then, maybe? Ha! Don't hold your breath.

In Texas, people are actively looking at blocking those who would denounce anyone looking for abortion, by using the Article 1983 of the civil right Act :

What is Section 1983 of the civil rights Act?

Section 1983 provides an individual the right to sue state government employees and others acting "under color of state law" for civil rights violations. Section 1983 does not provide civil rights; it is a means to enforce civil rights that already exist.

This law will create immense harm for women. However, women are the most powerful voting block, especially African American women.

We are coming for you Abbot and your henchmen. We will vote you out of office.

Would the Steady team consider convening a virtual meeting of this community to help orient those of us in Texas on taking action? Redistricting starts soon and driving a change in leadership will be made as difficult as possible. But only a ground game will lead us there. I for one need help figuring out where what time and energy I can provide will do the most good.

I am late to responding to this and agree whole heartedly with the views expressed. But there seems to be another salient point missing: Texas does not take care of their foster kids! The courts have ruled that the state must do more, but the problem only grows. Children are sleeping in offices because there are no homes for them. This situation will only grow more dire now that well-meaning, responsible women and mothers cannot control the future for themselves or their children. Unwanted babies grow into children and then teenagers without enough people to give them the love and attention that will help them to finally grow into properly functioning adults. This law is not just shameful, it is abusive on many, many levels.

I’ve never been confronted with this myself or in family but always thought this decision should be between a woman and her doctor. I shudder at the thought of encouraging citizens to go after women who they may think are about to or have had an abortion. They already have armed “militia”Texans walking around with guns at will.

My own state of Ga is soon to do same, with voter suppression, and out of control Covid with little effort to suppress it with vaccines and masks.

I’m almost 80 years old and very scared.

The Court NEEDS three or 4 more Justices AND at least one of Trump’s appointees needs to be removed, Susan Collins friend, Brett; who is woefully incompetent and a political stooge with no redeeming value (neither does she!). Thank you, as always, for your perspective on this critical issue.

Such a long, hard battle for women's rights and medically safe termination of unwanted pregnancy. Anti-choice advocates should be asking themselves how many unwanted children have they adopted.

Women losing their freedom to choose means the Texas abortion authoritarian control is just the beginning. Cut by cut the freedom of men, gays, African, Latino, Asian and yes Anglo Saxon people will be lost by legislation and supported by the 6 Radical Republicans. In every Republican controlled Governor & legislature the same authoritarian laws will be passed. Voting seems to be the only way citizens can fight and protect our freedom. Please don’t think this is just about Texas, it’s not my problem, I’m too busy, I don’t vote in off election,& my vote doesn’t count. We are responsible for our freedom. FIGHT NOW or lose on November 8, 2022. Only days remain for our freedom if we choose to go have coffee.

We now have a generation who have been raised believing the Court is compromised and simply does not work. They never knew a system of government that actually works for the people. We have a small window to show that government can do good things but if we fail I don’t when we will have another chance. We must get out the vote and gain more of a majority if we are to succeed.

It's all about keeping a woman in 'her place, under control of men. If it was about saving precious life they would outlaw guns, gladly wear masks and be the first in line for vaccines. I'm an older women who has lived through the struggles women have gone through and never thought I'd live to see this happen. Shameful and frightening
