It saddens me very deeply, this road we're on.

My hope is that some how some way we will be United again. However I am afraid that will not happen. Missouri is my home state. This is the first I have read about how far astray they have gone. However I should not be surprised. I was in 5th grade when Kennedy became President. One of my school friend’s the day after the election. Came over to me and told me she wasn’t allowed to talk or play with me. She was the daughter of the minister where we attended.

As an Independent who leans strongly moderate democrats I will quote 3 people in response to the Republican garbage I have been seeing. We choose peaceful protests and signing campaign letters and working hard to do the right things in life not guns and threats and taking away rights. As Winston Churchill said Never Surrender Never Give Up and John Paul Jones said I have not yet begun to Fight! Mr Lewis put it beautifully. Let’s make good trouble ! Be proud of who you are. Don’t use violence. Good triumphs over Evil. It may not feel like it right now but it does. MLK all the way

Yikes! I took the time to read this article. It is full of projection, misleading, full of spin and in parts just liying.

This is the type of stuff that one side uses to demonize the other. And then people on the supporting side read it and don't question it because it fits their world view. That is called confirmation bias.

Just a couple things:

1st) Jan 6th was not an insurrection. Look up the definition. They were not armed and there is video of police opening doors and letting many of them into the Capitol Building. Some even ushering them in.

The only person killed was an UNARMED woman shot by a Capitol Police Officer. Nothing was set on fire or torn down. There was no attempt to take power nor was there any capability to do so. So ask yourself why certain people need to convince others it was an insurrection?

2nd) This article uses some fringe examples and some are out of context to alarm the reader. The author knows his audience will not check what is written, they will just believe it all as gospel. Ether way, definitely not main stream examples.

3rd) The mythical great switch the Democrat Party has been pushing for decades now. This has been debunked over and over. For example, this supposedly happened in the 1920s to 40s. Then why did it 80% of Republicans support the 1964 Civil Rights act decades later and less the 70% of Democrats? Democrats tried to filibuster the bill! It was Republicans that broke the filibuster after 60 days of being blocked. The author seems to have left that detail out when using the switch in the article.🤔

I can go on but this is already super long.

This kind of stuff is what is ripping this nation apart. If you demonize your opponent with spin and lies then nothing is off limits. That is scary. 🙁

Check everything you read from the right or the left. They all have an agenda and it is to control what you think. Not to inform you.

I have been a victim of this in the past. Now over the past few years I read different sources and check historical facts on all my "news". It is sad what the media has become. No longer to inform but to mold.🙁

Once again Dan, you have expressed it far better than I could. Sadly, the Democratic party is so busy dividing itself that the republican party is taking over. The 1/6 committee has enough information already and gains more exponentially every day to at least prove Trump should step away - as Nixon did. They should offer him a pardon on the condition that he no longer participates in any form of politics. Nothing at all from the milk monitor in a kindergarten on up. No talking on politics and no involvement in any kind of funding candidates.

That is my pipe dream. Of course, Trump will never do that. Dan, you are part of the greatest generation. I didn't want my grandsons to be part of the last generation.

Democrats need to get the Steady post info out in a big way. The Dems have to run hard and have a major get out the vote effort. With inflation and gas worries, the Dems have to have a huge turnout. Our coalitions sometimes can be lax in voting, if everything doesn't align just so. Vote Blue!!

The current composition of the GOP most specifically in Texas must make you very sad Dan. I feel likewise. Thanks for helping us all remain 'steady'.

No mention of climate change here. But according to Noam Chomsky the GOP is the most dangerous organization in human history because of their climate denial and indifference.

Thank you so much Mr. Rather and the other writers involved. Like some other people have mentioned, I watched the January 6th Committee with a lowering of expectations. I applaud the Committee and all those working on it , however, with every day closer to November, and watching my neighbors primarily right wing, I wonder how they perceive democracy and free elections. Even the hanging chads of 2000 in Florida didn’t incite violence as compared to January 6th. I don’t see the right wing asking for recalls on the current primaries they’ve won. Except Oz in Pennsylvania against a fellow MAGA acolyte. Sad day for both the United States and Democracy. One grifter family bringing Democracy to its knees. Vote honestly and for what you feel is really best for this nation, such as making sure the average family can make due so that their children will be given the opportunity to strive. It’s 2022, not 1956 white America.

As I watch the January 6 committee hearings, I feel like I can’t believe that the things the witnesses are saying happened aren’t illegal. Why isn’t this information being acted upon? I realize that we are in a very bad place. My frustration is really turning to fear. And now with the Supreme Court ruling on guns, it feels like The groundwork is being laid for a revolution.

Beautifully written commentary , Mr. Rather.

People must see the larger picture here , and self educate themselves about what is happening in this country. This is critical , and about the consequences we will suffer , if we don't show up in droves to vote. The Democratic party must be aggressive in there campaign ads on Television.

Explain the consequences of no freedom and democracy. Benefits gone, and Social Security.

Explain what it means to be under autocratic rule.

People must hear this on Television. Which is more important Democracy or inflation? I am

willing to sacrifice and cut down more. My freedom , and our Democracy are IRRERPLACABLE.

All that was said was true. But also true is the fact that the Republican Party now stands not for the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA but for the Soviet Socialist Party or Putkin. Those voting Republican want a dictortial ruler at the helm - not democracy. They believe that there will be justice in the rule. They have not realized that justice under Putkin is Putkin's law. There is no other law. If they do not wake enough soon - they and America will come into a country that was never anticipated by our founding fathers who lost riches, their families & their lives to give us our precious freedom & many soldiers fought to keep it.
