Thank you for a beautiful story to sit and read as I celebrate my 70th Birthday!

Thanks Dan, as one of those freezing Minnesotans, I’m trading the cold and snow for the considerable warmth of Texas!

Thank you, Dan. You have been a Steady voice and presence throughout many decades. What Unites Us and your letters calm the angst too much cable news can bring...and keeps the good all around us in the spotlight.

Thank you, Dan, for staying with us. I follow you from Alberta, Canada and have relied on you throughout your career for your commitment to telling the truth. Our hearts go out to the people of Texas and other southern states who are suffering through this weather and through the pretty much criminally poor condition of your 'life-safety' infrastructure.

Because I am a native of western Canada, I learned at a very early age that preparation and respect are everything when dealing with the existential threat of deadly cold. Jack London and the other 'Klondike' migrants got it when they experienced true cold. It sounds like you did too.

Keep dry, stay out of the wind, find shelter and heat wherever you can and, above all, stay calm.

I hope you have gotten power, and heat, back by today!

Please stay warm and safe. You have been my rock over the years, the voice of truth and reason.

Thank you for this. Please stay safe and warm. I'm hoping this is another opportunity to awaken to the disasters of the climate crisis.

Thank you Dan Rather for sharing your wisdom, insight, and humanity on a multitude of topics facing our world today. It is very interesting and thought provoking to read the comments of individuals from all walks of life. "Steady" has become the partner to my morning cup of coffee.

As I sit in my warm home in Kentucky, my heart goes out to all those suffering from the extreme weather conditions of the last few years, Covid-19, and fighting the mental anxiety caused by a "perfect storm" that has been brewing for quite a while. Thanks again.........

Thank you for that report on Texas. I've been thru axios, dailybeast, NYT to name a few and I have settled on Dan Rather Reports for my morning indoctrination to each day. Godspeed sir. You are a steady vioce amongst those quivering in fear of truth.

The dark winter? The promise of spring just a few months away? Everything happens for a reason. The change of seasons. The sunrise and sunset. A concern for Mother Nature and our resources are important. Don't fall asleep when we need to be wide awake.

Praying for all the people in Texas. I was happy to see you mentioned the Battle of the Bulge. My daddy fought in that battle. He was 21. He said that was the coldest he’d ever been in his whole life. We live on the Gulf Coast of Alabama and like the people of Texas , we’re just not used to that kind of weather. Like you, I’ll take the heat and humidity any day!

Thoughts go out to the Texas people in distress. Living north of the polar circle snow, ice and cold is part of life. Not having a heated home is disastrous here and there. Hoping for expedient solutions.

My parents were “snowbirds” who wintered in Texas...I know there are thousands of retirees that do...so we have that population that are in mobile trailers and 5th wheels that are definitely not made for the cold and are heated by electricity...

Thank you Dan! I'm a Maui girl. Spent 10 years in New Braunfels TX. I returned to Maui in early March of 2020 and ended up staying. Bought a house at 3,800 feet on the mountain that the Hawaiians call the house of the sun. Watching what's going on in Texas and feeling grateful that we got out just in time. Gonna put in more solar panels, buy a water tank, and plant more trees.

I hope the polar vortex goes away soon; we are getting terrible pictures of suffering in Texas and elsewhere on Australian news shows. One of the unfortunate things (beyond just the cold and misery) is that already there's a lot of "fake news" being bandied around by everyone from the Governor on down. There's no way a few frozen wind turbines caused the blackout--just like there's no way one super-cold weather event "proves" that there's no global warming--but you watch the couch-surfers declare otherwise. Severe weather events are becoming more common and only fools and certain politicians pretend otherwise. Pressure your political representatives, friends, and meanwhile do what you can to help yourselves. Depending on your budget, upgrade your home's insulation, which will help in both hot and cold weather; add another rain-water tank; investigate a back-up energy source for times when the grid goes down, because you can bet your bippy you'll need it. (And keep a tinned chicken and a gallon jug of water on the hurricane shelf like my mother did!)

The real story here is the buyout and bankruptcy of Energy Future Holdings/TXU. Their Luminant unit is the largest generator in the state and was plundered for 10 years before it went bankrupt. TPG lead the deal.

I worry that the electric market here is so complicated that no one will take the time to understand it well enough to report what really happened. Please don’t let that be the case.
