I love getting your email everyday! My dad was a reporter and he took me with him on his meetings he had to cover. I watched you on tv with him and I always asked him Questions! He passed recently and I cant afford to pay yet, but I hope to be able soon. I'm grateful to read you each day! Thank you!

Mr. Rather, you were a reporter during the Watergate times. I tell my grown son and daughter that Nixon should have been indicted somehow for something. I was in high school when he resigned and was pardoned by President Ford. Looking back in time, I understand why Ford did that. But if somehow Nixon could have been held accountable in a court of law for how he ran our country, that would have had an effect on future presidents. I know, we don't want to be a banana republic that just indicts former presidents all the time. But what Nixon did led us to Trump 50 years later. I'd love to hear your remarks about what I see as a straight line from Nixon to Trump. Please share some insight and stories with us about being a reporter way back then. Thank you so much.

Amazing how sweet something can be then years later feel so prophetic in retrospect.

Even if Trump is indicted for the 30 counts in New York, he can still be pardoned. Is this just a ploy by the DOJ to quell people of decency? We’re all sheep that are led to the slaughter, and I have no faith in my country because a person like DJ T is allowed to go free. All the wrong incentives.

Once again, you guys nailed it! This brought tears to my eyes and renewed my hope for our people, our country, our nation, and we must remain steady, hopeful, determined, and strong. Stay strong, all of you, we must not give up. My heart pours out love, prayers, hope, and gratitude to everyone on here!

Loved this so much! Thank you for sharing Dan and Elliot. Sad that change is dependent on the belief that bigots and racists will stop being bigots and racists. I don't believe it.

I also don't know why you are bothering to speak because you've been exposed as a liar and a racist (well, that was always obvious) and there's really not much more you can say, other than to at least have the courage to own it. Otherwise you should be done. Black and brown people wanting to be treated as equal citizens in this society is not "power over" anyone, but to you and yours you see it that way because that means the end of white supremacy. "We" don't want "power" over you, we want you to leave us alone and stop and quit using race to maintain yourselves in a position you didn't earn. For example, me saying, when I have my property appraised I don't want it lowballed by someone because I am black -- this happens frequently -- is not "power over you." My wanting to be treated equally as a property owner is not "power over you" unless you feel I deserve to be treated that way in order for you to maintain a false sense of superiority, based on YOUR race.

You remind me of something LBJ said: "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

My advice to you is, stop being a fool for a system that has used you and yours to oppress us all!

You are the very sad embodiment of that.

When I was young , I heard Mr. Cooke's and Mr. Dylan's cries for equality. They are long past. I am old now. I fear that racism in our country will never...never die.

Mr Rather You talk about change - let’s talk about history repeating itself. Which as a learned person I know you are aware of. I think I am cynical because Sam Cook was murdered because of his involvement with the Civil Rights Movement just getting started. To my knowledge no one was arrested in his murder. He refused to silence his performances of “ controversial” songs. As you know , there have been countless more deaths in civil rights progress. You can’t stop racism in this country. It’s in the very fabric of this country.

Smiling- I don’t. You are an optimist I believe. I adored Mr Cook’s voice and music. I think about all those that came after him. But change- to me it’s one step forward and usually two steps back. Sad but true. You can’t even get the Republicans to ban assault weapons much less make attempts to end racism and hate. They are perpetuating it.

I am not sure what it will their Republican Party to finally see the reality of their stance on guns. how many more school killings will it take for common sense to finally get through the republicans and the gun lobby. The only thing the republicans want is to ban books, control what is thought in school. change our history. We have to keep standing together and be strong to combat the republicans and their selfess small minded thinking

Sadly I feel we are slipping backwards. I had so much hope that my fellow country persons were turning away from racism and antisemitism because they saw the incredible harm this hateful rhetoric can cause. But hate seems to be on the agenda for the Republican Party, it’s quite shocking to see the glee on their faces when they deprive others off their own bodies rights. Do you really think Conservatives care about your body, your pregnancy? They don’t they just want to control women! Republican women want to control you true.

Trump is not a suitable leader for a Free Country. That’s not what the Republicans have in mind, if you haven’t figured that out yet I feel for you. The Republicans and the far right have no intention of giving up their power in an honest way.

Hi to all. Seeing the Sam Cooke reference made us wonder if you know of “Playing for Change”.

Playing For Change is a multimedia music project, featuring musicians and singers from across the globe, co-founded in 2002 by American Grammy award-winning music producer/engineer and award-winning film director Mark Johnson and film producer/philanthropist Whitney Kroenke.

We listen to them often to give us a boost in morale. One of the main songs is A Change is Gonna Come.

Dan, please continue to be the calm and steady voice in our crazy world. 💕💕

Call me a cynic, but given its been almost 250 years since our Declaration of Independence and we’re still witnessing violence, brutality, injustice and inequality towards minorities as a part of our culture (just a more covert form of slavery), I’m still waiting for the time to come…

As Bob Dylan so poignantly put it,

And how many years can some people exist

Before they're allowed to be free?

Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head

And pretend that he just doesn't see?
