I don’t know why, but among my smiles I also found a few tears. I think, perhaps, you reminded me with this post and video that, regardless of our political leanings or personal biases, there was a time in our country when those who chose to give up their time and privacy to serve the greater good were treated with the respect that choice deserves. I miss that.

Mrs. Roosevelt spoke at several assemblies when I attended Hunter College High School ( 1950 to 1956) She was so approachable and inspirational - an incredible experience for a assembly hall filled with young women. Oddly enough when I went home and told my father that I had seem Mrs. Roosevelt he was angry. Why a tool and die maker from the Bronx could dislike the Roosevelts so vehemently is still a mystery to me ? Some nonsense about enemies to their class and communists. In later years my husband and I donated to the restoration of Roosevelt House - the dual residence of Sarah, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt on 65th Street which was sold to Hunter College. It is filled with Roosevelt memorabilia and you can actually use President Roosevelt’s elevator. Renovated, of course ! Many educational, cultural and social events are held there. One of which was our 50th wedding anniversary party. So that video was very emotional to me - precious memories of high school and college and of a lovely lady. Thank you so much !
