I loved this column! I loved hearing the Met sing the Ukrainian National Anthem. I loved being reminded of the good that so many people do in these difficult and frightening times.
Thank you Mr. Rather, for giving me a few minutes of peace and good will.
people are missing is the cruel insult of Jada . Whoever wrote the ‘joke’ or delivered it should be ashamed of themselves. Let’s build each other up and condem those who utter words that put other people down. The ‘joke’ is the crux of the problem.
Thank you, thank you, for reminding myself that there is more love and beauty in humankind than hate and destruction. I have to keep that at the top of my mind.
I had a “Wordsworth” few hours yesterday. It felt like an electrical storm trying to make my brain frame this world of ours in some positive way. Some road that has light and kindness as it’s base material.
I was further disappointed when I awoke to the controversy of the day. The Oscar’s! While people are being bombed in Ukraine.
The contrast of what outrages the collective “us” was hurting my brain.
Today as I read “steady” I thought of chef Jose Andres and the “World Central Kitchen.” I am adopting him as my new patron Saint. He is that light for me.
It's hard to find words that express how much I appreciated this email today. I've been feeling a little glum lately and your "Steady" comes like a balm to enlarge my view and affirms there is a way forward--together.
As always a brilliant mind sharing the experience that comes from a seasoned professional writer and a compassionate heart. Thank you Mr. Rather. Your gifts are to be treasured. I do, have, will.
I was also moved by the concept of "a conspiracy of decent people". The most positive future for the U.S. and world is one intertwined with hope. I believe there is a conspiracy of decent people out there who will act with selfless altruism - which is a powerful means of hope for us.
"a conspiracy of decent people" -- please God, may the decent people continue to come to the forefront more than the ones we see much too often lately.

“A conspiracy of decent people…” Love this phrase. Mr. Rather you continue to amaze with the power of your words. ❤️

Thank you so much, all we can do is live in hope, help where we can and be kind. If we don't do it, who will? We is us.

Loved this edition so much.
This is my take on your article. Thank you for the inspiration.
As this Spring of ‘22 begins to share its beauty with the world
So, too, the world is shattered by the many sufferings of those that would enjoy its fullness.
Likewise, as I look upon the youth of our nation and grandsons bright with hope,
I must witness their own decisions and honor their own choices though they be not my course.
To pause and recognize that I have within the wisdom of years
Yet can do nothing to shift the currents of untethered springs,
I am torn between two worlds that seem to oppose my dreams of fulfillment
As my Spring has long since passed and I am want to see new hope.
I can only summon an old blessing for us all:
May the long time sun shine upon you
All love surround you,
And the pure light within you
Guide you all the way home.
Love to all…B.
“You can’t change the wind, but you can adjust the sails “
"May the long-time sun shine upon you
All love surround you,
And the pure light within you
Guide you all the way home."
Thank you for these kind words, you write beautifully.

Your words, as always, give me comfort and hope. In these times, that's no small feat.
