Defining “conservative” is telling. I, too, have felt that the word was no longer applicable. To my mind, a Conservative is cautious about new things, reserved in demeanor, perhaps nostalgic in a not unhelpful way by looking to the past for what was good — does that kind of person still exist? Did they ever?

The MTGs, Cawthornes, McCarthys, Gaetzes and others in Congress who seem incapable of truth and decent social and political behavior do not merit such an honorable title as Conservative. They are social and political heathens, anarchists, the kid in the class who always managed to rile everyone up just for the fun of it. One wonders about the people who voted them into office. Were they duped, or stupid, or of the same kind of lawless, truthless mindset?

I tend to think we are in as much trouble as Ukraine right now, and our Putin sadly is the very people who may be your next-door neighbor with the Trump flag still or already flying.

I think we need to call Jan 6 what it was: a treasonous attempt to take over our democracy. And those involved committed treason. Very string language but it is what it is. Arrests need to be made in a timely manner. Try perpetrators for treason. Then prison. This includes those members of Congress who participated and also the ex president. When people are allowed to get away with something this egregious , we all suffer. Our country suffers. Calling them conservatives is a huge disservice to those who truly are conservative. Disparaging liberals for all the wrongs of the world tells people not to disagree or raise questions. Jan 6 was a treasonous event. Those involved are traitors. We must preserve our democracy.
