The common thief walks down the street, and as he passes by other pedestrians, as he watches cars and SUV's pass him by, as he walks by homes and apartment buildings filled with people, the common thief thinks that all of their money, all of their possessions, all of their individual wealth, whether large or small, actually belongs to him: HE JUST HASN'T COLLECTED IT AS OF YET, BUT HE VERY SOON WILL. Donald Trump, all members of his regime, and all Trumpublicans, whether in elected office or in the broadcast medium, think exactly the same thing. What a country!!!
The Wall Street Journal says that the Democrats are “manufacturing a panic”? Do I have that right?
What the fuck do they think the Republicans have been doing, aiding and abetting for the last nine goddamned months? No wonder I don’t deal with the “mainstream” media in this country anymore. This isn’t journalism, WSJ!
Right now, my cost for subsidized Obamacare is about $250/month. If the Democrats don’t get what they want (which, conveniently, is what America wants), my cost will be right around $540/month. That is, nearly to the dollar, what my car payment is per month.
Unless I get at least a $2/hour raise from my employer at the end of the year, that cost will come right out of my pocket. Thanks, You Orange Fucking Asshole!
Look for a social media posted by Bernie Sanders showing the thousands of voters by state that will have increased health insurance premium costs with the loss of these subsidies. All states are affected, Red states are affected the worse.
Heather Cox Richardson pointed out in her 10/1 column that the Republican Senate could pass the CR with a simple majority if they removed the filibuster also with a simple majority. They could end the shutdown & reopen the government & govern but they would rather blame Democrats for not voting for the CR. Why is no one talking about this?
Because if they reopen, the Epstein file vote will happen with the newly sworn in 218th vote needed for the Dems. Johnson does NOT want that to happen bc he supports the ped-in-chief.
Then it sounds like the Democrats need to demand that Adelita Grijalva be sworn in yesterday, no? Christ! The Democrats are begging us not to vote for them! 13 months out from an election that might not happen and they are already repeating plays from the same old tired playbook that allowed the Republicans to return a pick six and hurl this country into a fascist dictatorship. Do something, Democrats!
I’ll be one to lose my healthcare on the ACA 😞 Estimates are coming in between $1200-$1400 a month . Hell that’s not healthcare that’s EXTORTION 🫤 I plan to go uninsured until I can get on Medicaid in 1 and 1 /2 years. If it’s still there 😨 I’ll just be hoping I have no catastrophic incidences. This infuriates me especially when the GOP has such blatantly shown us in black and white who they care about. Healthcare for foreign countries and themselves. America is not the country I have grown up in. 😔 I am keeping my fingers crossed that the credit may survive; but not counting on it. I’ve got a plan B in place.
I follow this line of reasoning but I’m still wondering about what might be called loose ends. Presidential elections in my lifetime have been presented as winning hearts and minds, while the party that is not the winner simply spends that loss preparing for the next go ‘round. The individual voter of either loser or winner mostly sees their part as finished. The parties, of course, have a different perspective. The winner has the prospect of a second term to guide their political machinations, while the loser party spends the current term giving it all they’ve got in order to retake the WH. That’s par for Party Politics. But what if unelected folk devise a plan to do away with the 3-branch, coequal government altogether? Partisan politics are a familiar fare on US voter menus. What if that menu could be semi-maintained just long enough to provide cover for a a complete change from a democracy to an autocracy in a tight turnaround from one term to the next? I think there’s ample historical evidence to prove how it might be done. Step 1 - select an egocentric carney-style con man to manipulate as a front man. Step 2 - troll Republicans in key electoral States and float the notion that their party platform principles could be tailored to appeal to a wider populist base that would not object to an altered version of the 3-branch design (jettisoning the coequal). Step 3 - combine a blueprint plan and a contingent of unelected bureaucrats with fringe elements that share a key belief (white, male, Christian). With those 3 steps accomplished, use the power of the Executive branch to systematically render the other 2 branches mere puppets to do the new bidding. Dissension works to your advantage. After all, Americans count on the freedom to disagree. Give them something to blame and they’ll busy themselves complaining. While they are swimming in circles, you control the drain. What do you care how loud they shout and decry their outrage? You don’t intend they will ever vote again! Grab the power, control the purse strings and the military, and law enforcement becomes your own army of thugs you throw a bone to while they get to vent their personal frustrations born of their own insecurities by “legally” beating up the enemies of the New State. Who’s going to stop you? Who can? By the time a wide swath of the nation’s tax payers realize they lack the resources to wage any individual pushback, you have isolated them. There is no solidarity. You’ve isolated them from their freedoms and their individual rights and you control the narrative. A diabolical plan that simple uses our division-based mindset of “them and us” as sleight of hand. And because we believe the person behind the desk in the Oval Office got there by a voted majority, we don’t see the trap until we are in it. No more Federal Government, no more State governments, and if you are in any position of public power you must risk all or fall prey. For The New They will take you out without batting an eyelash!
The pace indicates that the 25th amendment will ONLY address the puppet…not the puppeteers. And who is going to trust the Other Party if the GOP takes that kind of hit? That’s a relatively minor consideration if a New World Order accepts the US as an autocracy backed by the consolidated wealth of a superpower.
Dan reminds us that when the GOP takes health insurance from 20 million
Americans, that they'll go uninsured to the ER when they get hurt, forcing the hospitals to force everyone who still has insurance to make up the difference.
By this time next year all these GOP cuts to the ACA and Medicaid will cause my wife and my monthly premiums to double or even triple. We simply don't have the money. Do you?
Thank you for being steady. You’re one of the lighthouses in the storms we are currently experiencing. 🙂

I don't know why everyone's worrying. After all I'm sure dump will have a new insurance plan in two weeks. Just trust him.
I can only hope that with Medicare I can find a plan that works for me. My heart goes out to others who are suffering more.

My current premium (just for me) $1255- Monthly. With a $5750 “maximum” out of pocket.
My New Insurance premium will be somewhere between $1500-$1750. I don’t qualify for ACA, I make “too” much.
“Winning” !
I’m glad I live in 🇨🇦. Believe me it’s far from perfect here. But no one is WITHOUT medical care.
I’ll pray about this for all of you. Not much else to do these days.
Thank you Dan, for explaining all this very clearly.
I totally agree. It is inconceivable how a government could "shut down" and how a country would not provide health care to its citizens.
Proud to be Canadian, never 51.

Oh, and another thing…MAGA Mikey is in the Epstein Files. I’ll bet my life on it!

VERY interesting photo. Mikey’s new klan hoodie?
You want to know more about Steven Miller and who he really is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Miller_(advisor)
There's a typo. 2024 should be 2026 in paragraph 11.

This so-called Big Beautiful Bill is a reverse Robin Hood--it steals from the poor to give to the rich.
Reminds me of a the line from a Monty Python sketch:
