I think the Republicans have no idea what they are unleashing. Do they think only women who are Democrats have abortions? Their precious red states are filled with women who have either had an abortion or would like the option at some point. I have been saying for a while that it is unwise to piss off most of the women, at the same time, on the same issue. Mission accomplished. The other glaring issue is the outright hypocrisy of Republicans. Their "pro-life" label they've been touting is bullshit. They care nothing about the lives of people. Once these forced pregnancies come to term, their fervent concern over that child comes to an abrupt halt. Their voting record proves this over and over again. Everyday, this country gives me yet another reason to pack up and leave. By the way, if anyone thinks they'll be satisfied with this "victory", think again. LGBTQ+ community, buckle up, because you're next. Any other marginalized community is also in danger. Republicans are mostly to blame for this, but the passivity and business as usual attitude of the Democrats, are also to blame. I am disgusted by their lack of urgency over anything. This country is barely on life support, and no one in power seems to give a damn. I am heartbroken, but, more than that, my anger is boiling over into outrage.

The weight of today. Even before the decision is finalized . . . it feels like a shrinking of the universe. Conservatives do not even care about who the people are who seek abortions. Don't care about their stories, their circumstances, the hard realities of their lives.

These six conservative justices live in a fantasy world - no one more obviously so than the newest Justice Amy Coney Barrett. Adoption is the answer! As if women seeking abortion don't already have other children. As if you have a cloak of invisibility while pregnant and people just can't see your pregnancy in your family, workplace, and community. Sure - keep the 3 kids you already can't afford to feed and just give the fourth away. She is the patron saint of the American Corps of White Suburban Karens. I am just sick to my core over this.

I refuse to be hopeless. This is a moment best articulated by the "Stockdale Paradox": You must maintain unwavering faith that you can and will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties, and at the same time, have the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.

The arc of the moral universe is not really an arc - it's a series of advances and setbacks.
