The assault on education is only half the picture. The other half is what replaces it: managed information. Redacted documents presented as transparency. 'Raw' footage that's been edited. Civic education curricula written by the Heritage Foundation. They're not just limiting what people learn - they're controlling what counts as evidence. An uneducated electorate is useful. An electorate that can't distinguish between disclosure and performance is essential.
This administration, under Trump, appears intent on destroying the values our nation has always supported. Are the Republicans who are currently in office going to continue to sit on their hands with their mouths shut as this once great country crumbles more each day. Science is not considered important. Being education holds no value. Our nation is being trampled even as we engage in blatant cruelty to immigrants and the poor.
Dan, I could write a long missive here...but I'll spare everyone. I'll just state the obvious, and what I've been seeing for decades:
You can't have a slave labor class by educating the slaves. It's been SOP since ancient Egypt. And the Men Who Really Run Things (not Trump) know it. They've been working away at this for a long time. They recognized the need for a New American Slave ever since the Thirteenth Amendment. The push and pull over the years to this end has been remarkable. But today they have the most malleable bit of clay they will ever get (Trump), and are doing their utmost with it. Same as Putin. Same as Xi Xinping. Same as Stephen Miller. Trump is a godsend to the worst angels in this world, and 77 million of Us put him there. Who could have predicted that? H.L.Menken, that's who. He stated that someday the American people would elect someone to the presidency as uneducated and crude as themselves...and we did. Voila.
In your first paragraph (and I paraphrase ) you state we are a nation that understands the importance of good schools and teaching. Sorry, I disagree. I don't think we are. I think we were. I think that disappeared ( along with manners and good English) with my parents, and I am now 74. Today, Dan, it's all just a big Club.
On TV lately I have seen the promotion of books for children to promote the truth about Pilgrims and other history.
The pictures shows kneeling Presidents side by side in a church that is more fallacy than truth.
Jefferson wrote a “corrected version” of the Bible. Some were loyal to a host of different beliefs in the Age of Enlightenment and some their Religious background is skimpy at best.
The history of this nation regarding the Pilgrims… is pure mix of truth, guesses and fallacies.
At Best the truth of “pilgrims” ignores any other faith group that came to America.
Many people left Europe to get away from the Church of England. Others left for a new world to flee religion, period!
Did Presidents and other influential people in the time of the Pilgrims until now have religious beliefs? Yes. Did they agree about all the tenets of faith? No.
I wish the ad I see daily would be removed. I know from the pictures it does not lead to an understanding for American history.

Just today at a middle school I was in there was no librarian for the library. A media technician told me there hasn't been one since Co-Vid.
