I grew up blocks away from Jackson Brown. As a kid I’d fall asleep listening to him playing piano— and singing the same song. I realized he was writing the song and working out the lyrics. It was awesome.
Dan, thank you for this beautiful tribute. “Take It Easy” has been echoing through my life for 50 years now — ever since I saw the Eagles perform it live at Texas A&M in 1974. My older brother was on the entertainment committee that helped bring them to G. Rollie White Coliseum, and he invited the whole family. I was just 10 years old, had no idea who they were — until Glenn Frey threw on a pair of sunglasses and they launched into that song.
I can still see him putting on those shades, clear as day — like it happened last night instead of half a century ago. The energy of the crowd shifted instantly, the cheers swelled, and as those first few chords rang out, something electric filled the air. I didn’t know I was witnessing history, but my heart did.
Reading your piece brought it all rushing back. Funny how a song can time-travel like that, stitching the decades together with a melody and a smile.
Many thanks, Dan, for a wonderful playlist. Not just a reason to smile, but a reason to dance, and to be grateful. For the Eagles, for music, for Dan Rather.

Stay steady, indeed.
Love this band! Saw them for the 1st time at Red Rocks in ‘75 and have seen them 3 times since. Thank you Dan for sharing!
LOVE it! Lord, I MISS THOSE DAYS'!
Love these guys!
Yes! Great sounds brought a smile!
Great choice. Timeless music! Thank you.
Made me want to boogie!
Like this song. Did not know that Jackson Brown wrote is but did not finish it.
Thanks, Dan. Love this song.
Am rather sick and yours is one of the few e-mails my spirit will allow me to read. Keeping steady.
As Always, Dan, you "lighten the load" in a simple, realistic way. Thanks!
Great advice! Look how young our friends were in this amazing video. Made our day!

Thank you this is great
Thanks, Dan. I have always loved the Eagles. Brings back many memories - including a time when I was " standin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona. "
