Steve Carell
A Reason To Smile
It is graduation season, which means the internet is chock-a-block with funny, inspiring, and moving clips of commencement addresses from around the country. These speeches, often given by celebrities, politicians, and/or alumni, always offer advice, much of which will soon be forgotten.
That won’t be the case for graduates of Northwestern University.
Actor and comedian Steve Carell, who is the parent of both a current Northwestern student and an alumna, was the university’s commencement speaker. And while he did impart some advice, a bit of wisdom, and a lot of humor, it was his surprising and infectious mid-speech dance break that had everyone smiling and on their feet.
In case you were wondering, that catchy song is “That’s Not My Name” by the British pop duo The Ting Tings. (I certainly had to look that up.)
I encourage you to watch Carell’s entire speech if you have a spare 20 minutes. It will make you smile even more.

Dan Rather: on this day when a very smart psychopath finally convinced a very stupid psychopath to bomb a psychopathic regime, i think something to smile about is indeed, important.
I watched and laughed, felt joy for the first time in a while.
