The June 8 post of the Harvard 2025 Commencement where Rita Moreno received an honorary degree with the wonderful singer, Carolyn Hao singing “Somewhere” from “West Side Story” to Moreno with Henry Wu accompanying on the piano, both students at Harvard, was just so touching and beautiful. I cried and watching dear Rita reacting to this so special and uplifting performance for her was uplifting and heartfelt. As Rita then joined in at the end was incredible. Thank you so for sharing this moment at Harvard, of the international students involved (on purpose) and the words of the Harvard President were so important.

She is amazing. I loved her in WestSide story and more now. She still has the moves and the music.

Thanks Dan for another one of your heartwarming masterpieces giving a well deserved tribute to Rita Moreno on her recent receipt of her well deserved Honorary Doctorate from Harvard. Rita Moreno is a legendary performer and has been recognized for her performances on stage, film, and television. How fitting it was that they surprised her with a musical tribute that included “Somewhere” from “West Side Story” sung by an international student accompanied by a graduate from the Class of 2025 which brought tears to her eyes as she joined the final note. Thanks Dan for your reminder that there’s still hope for us and our country and that there’s “still a place for us” a very apt sentiment during these turbulent and troubling times.

It is very sweet to see that although some of us might just seem old to younger generations, there still is an appreciation, Dan, of the enduring work we have done. Including yours.

Beautiful. Thank you Mr Rather. And everyone please pay attention to what’s after — the award for Dr Abraham Verghese. His books “cutting for stone” and “covenant of water” are beautifully written, compelling works.
