I'm a big fan of you Dan! I've watched you thru the years and appreciate your honesty. I'm 77 and you got a raw deal from CBS many years ago. I hope you are well and it's nice to know you're still on the job! Many thanks!

I have been saying for a long time that I don't hate Donald Trump. I feel sorry for him. As you mentioned he has to be one of the most unhappy people on the face of this planet. That said I have nothing good to say about his behavior. But Donald Trump is who he is, a sad pathetic excuse for a human being. What I can't understand are the millions of people, many who call themselves Christian, who continue to support this guy.

I appreciate so much your “steady” support in the version of uncertainty that has ripped our country apart. Stay with us Mr Rather we need you!

Truly sad state or should I say states of affairs. I have observed that unlike many of our former leaders who actually did things for this country, the one we have now doesn't give a crap about anything but chaos, smoke and mirrors and ignor the man behind the curtain moments. The people of our great nation deserve better in a leader. And FDR would be nice, or Harry Truman oh wait that was way back in the stone age. We have had many leaders that actually "helped" the people of our nation like Obama who introduced the ACA which is now I guess defunct! At least he believed the people of this country deserved affordable healthcare. Thank you for all you report Dan!

Thank you Dan. There is no democracy, no tolerance, no love, no peace seeking (among other things) coming from the president and his followers. We only hear hate, lies, and negative rantings. Dan, you are so right when you say he is for himself. We must do all we can to stay optimistic because "it will not be like this always".

Thank you, Dan.

Charlie Sykes said it best today, disgraced Congressional Republicans do not yet realize very soon they are NOT going to be in charge!

I hope and pray that comes to pass!

Not in charge now. Still hiding under their desks as far as I can see.

Optimism is hard to come by when every day we learn of new assaults not only upon our democracy but our humanity. Hope can be hard to maintain but as we learned during previous decades music and solidarity help. Below is a link to a Woody Guthrie song that makes me smile.

Thank you, Dan for this insightful albeit disturbing article about what the country is going through now. That Ranting Unhinged Manaical Person (trump) is trying, piece by piece to dismantle America and make it into an autocratic state under his personal control. He is eliminating anyone who has come out against him, in government or in the press, and has declared war on the First Amendment of the Constitution. Media companies have capitulated, yet honest journalists still write based on FACTS, most having done the research to back up what they say, excluding Fux News which is warped to begin with now totally entangled in his web.

The hate he is showing in his governmental actions is now showing in his health. He cannot let go of the hate, and it will eventually kill him, sooner the better. Maybe the country still has a change of restoring itself as a democratic republic as the Founders intended. The GOP is toast, it doesn't exist anymore and has become a parrot agency for trump, as he has become a parrot for those pulling the strings - namely the authors of Project 2025, their new collective bible.

It is the majority of this country that is being tested as to its resiliency, and its capacity to understand and overcome the madness that attacks us every day. The main consolations I see are that cloudy or bright, the sun does rise every morning, and we have Governors like Gavin Newsom and JB Pritzker who are not afraid to openly fight back. There are a few others of those too. I have to admit that MSNBC is my go-to station for information - Rachel Maddow gives the facts and connects historical dots to where things like this may have happened before; lawyer/journalist Ari Melber on The Beat is faced doing daily breakdowns of trump's edicts at their molecular legal levels, and making them understandable for his audience, which he does extremely well; Lawrence O'Donnell in his late hour show is unafraid to take on trump and iterates DJT's screw-ups eloquently. Jen Psaki, Chris Hayes, Stephanie Ruhle, and Nicolle Wallace all take this on from the specialties of their backgrounds, giving an overview that when combined provides daily understanding.

Dan, you and other journalists on Stubstack also provide a vital link to sanity for all of us. We need to maintain optimism balanced with reality, avenues for individual and collective action, and all the facts made available to us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Loved "The Ranting, Unhinged, Maniacal Person" comment! I don't know how I previously missed that. Good work! Liked the subtle nuance.

Ever-thanks, Dan. ACOG: Untreated fevers in pregnancy can be catastrophic to a fetus. Tylenol reduces that risk.

Your email is one that I will always open, read, and forward to my family members that are too young to remember trustworthy, credible, reliable, reputable journalists and reporters.

""He [Stephen Miller] went on to vehemently demean half the country. “You have nothing. You are nothing. You are wickedness. You are jealousy. You are envy. You are hatred. You are nothing. You can build nothing. You can produce nothing. You can create nothing,” he shouted." - This is a fine example of the old idiom, "the pot calling the kettle black."

Regardless, the biggest question - the most important question - is how are we going to stop these crazy people? Sadly, I do not have an answer. The system of "checks and balances" for all intents and purposes is defunct.

Everything that Mr Rather said is just the tip of the iceberg. Here are just a few of the other crazy things that have recently come to light:

-Two-thirds of the detainees from "Alligator Alcatraz" cannot be located.

-The latest batch of Epstein files released showed that Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Steve Bannon are all in

-A new House panel is is going to reinvestigate Jan 6 because because the babies in the GOP don't like the findings of the original committee.

-Ian Roberts: An school superintendent in Iowa arrested by ICE who claims he is not a US citizen, has a final order of removal that was issued in 2024 & has an outstanding weapons charge from 2020. Roberts says he is a US citizen, is unaware of the 2020 weapons charge or the order of removal. This dangerous man must have been so difficult to find since he has been superintendent since 2023. There's a lot of articles out there about this but here is one:https://www.cnn.com/2025/09/27/us/ian-roberts-des-moines-superintendent-ice

-The military: Black me who suffer from pseudofolliculitis barbae (a condition that affects up to 60% of black men) will no longer have a permanent shaving exemption. Instead it can be no more than a year and after that they will be separated from the military. That's right, Pete Hegseth is trying to get rid of as many black soldiers as he can.

-The military again: Pete Hegseth has called for a meeting of he most senior generals and admirals that is happening on Tuesday. There's a lot of speculation as to what this is about. I will let those who are interested do their own research, but in my opinion this is not good. It is also right out of Hitler's playbook. A year after Hitler become chancellor he called a meeting of his top military officials. The results were that som military leaders were killed. Now to be clears I am in no way suggesting that military leaders are going to be killed. However, I am suggesting that those who don't follow whatever BS Hegseth puts out there will be let go. Remember there's already been a dozen firings.
