‘Mockingbird’
A Reason To Smile
Sometimes we all need a reason to smile that has nothing to do with anything other than a toe-tapping song performed by talented artists. This week is one of those times.
In 1974, newlyweds Carly Simon and James Taylor put their own spin on Inez and Charlie Foxx’s hit “Mockingbird.” The top 10 song is itself a reimagining of the traditional lullaby “Hush, Little Baby,” which is about a parent’s increasingly challenging efforts to keep their child from crying.
Simon and Taylor turned the children’s song into a rollicking, bluesy sing-along. It’s doubtful that their version would help anyone get to sleep. And I dare you to keep the smile off your face watching the two superstars singing live.
Taylor now sings the duet with Sally Taylor, his daughter with Simon.

What a joyful memory! As you know, we’ve had a tremendous tragedy of unspeakable proportions here in the Hill Country this weekend. It’s good to have a smile on my face. This song has certainly lifted my spirits and with a father/daughter duet I’ve never heard. Thank you, Mr Rather.
Sunday is always more cheerful with your selections, Dan. Wishing you a peaceful day.
