Dan, we all here on Steady, owe you a huge debt of gratitude for keeping this subject on the front burners of our hearts, minds and souls. My father and a small handful of his school board colleagues in the small east Texas town where I was raised, led the fight to fully integrate our schools 7 years ahead of state mandates. They did it systematically, reaching out to the entire ministerial alliance in this small place--blacks, whites, browns sat together, agreeing to work together, arm in arm to get this done. My father didn't live to see his dream fully accomplished, but something magical happened. We had no race-related fights, we had no problems...none...zero. I was one of 57 in the first fully integrated class in the history of our school. At high school reunions we still talk about how well the integration process worked, how smoothly it went. Towns all around us weren't so fortunate and many remain somewhat polarized to this day. I often think about what my dad and his colleagues from those days must be thinking as they observe from above. I'm convinced they'd be disappointed that this country's racism has reverted back to its old, ugly, bigoted, hateful ways. We as a nation must be better than this. Blessings from Austin.

Reading "Four Hundred Souls", read "The Strange Career of Jim Crow," The New Jim Crow," One Person, No Vote,' Our country has an abominable record regarding recognizing people of color with respect and fairness. With passover coming up I grew reciting, we were slaves in Egypt, but when I just learned that the Dutch brought slaves from Africa to New Amerstedam in 1629, it brought it home that our country has distorted reality for yes 400 years. Yes we managed to elect Joe Biden but it was a hard fought fight. As Georgia was validating its votes, Stacey Abrams warned us not to be complacent with the same people who showed integrity in this last election. She is correct. Our Country needs to pass H.R. 1 or any other bill which removes the states rights from determining how our citizens can vote. We see that too many states in our union do not believe in equality for all and will do whatever they can to distort reality. The time is NOW FOR US TO CORRECT OUR PATH. Black Lives Matter.
