Today, we’ll keep the preface to our “A Reason to Smile” brief. Because sometimes there’s not much that has to be said.
All we have to do is quote Ed Sullivan from the video below: “The Duke and Ella.” How many better introductions have there been in the history of American music? Not many. Really, is there anything more to say?
It goes without saying that we’re talking about the great Duke Ellington and the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald performing his infectious megahit “It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing).” If this ain’t a reason to smile, then what is?

Thank you so much! My late husband, who was much older than I am, introduced me to the fabulous Ella. We listened to her on CD’s on long road-trips, until I could identify when the recording was made based on the maturity of her voice. Hearing her sing brings my husband’s memory to mind, both of which brings a smile to my face!
