In 1964 I was in college, experiencing the massive social changes of civil rights, racial riots, LBJ war on poverty, the beginning of Vietnam war and other cultural changes. How ironic that today , I see the Trump administration and the Supreme Court demolish the voters protection law and many of the southern states actions to suppress blacks and other people of color, politically and financially back to the post civil war time. Our country has been based upon slavery and it seems that no matter how we try to better ourselves, rich, small minded men seem to always drag us back to slavery , bigotry and other ugly behaviors. How Ironic and sad.
I was 10 years old. I asked for the Hello Dolly soundtrack LP and the Beatles 45 of She's a Woman and I Feel Fine for my birthday. Got both of them and would sing along with all the songs at top volume. Good memories!
What a nice memory and nice performance that was. Funny, but I thought Dean Martin’s “Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime” was the song that broke the Beatles streak at No. 1. This sure was great, though. Thanks Dan, and by the way, I miss The Big Interview series.
Wow! Thank you I've never heard this version. Definitely the best.

Great story about personally seeing Channing singing it to LBJ! You’re such a treasure. 💜
Thanks, I needed that smile! : )
Give us…
Some candidates to build a dream on…
And in my imagination…
We all will vote for them…

I love discovering the good nuggets like "Hello Dolly" and the fun fact pertaining to President Johnson, how catchy.
