Dan, thanks for Steady!

Below is a poem I wrote a couple of weeks ago. Your piece today reminded me of the poem. I’m not a poet, but this flowed out of me one morning. I believe it describes the feelings of many people these days.

We wait!

In isolation we sit.

We sit waiting, waiting for the all clear signal;

waiting for visitors; friends, neighbours;

waiting for the time when it’s safe,

safe once again to explore the world;

to explore unencumbered by restrictions.

We wait, trying to be patient,

patiently waiting for an embrace,

waiting for the hugs we’ve missed,

the hugs we’ve missed from loving family and friends.

We wait, attempting to stay above,

above the pit of depression.

We search deep within,

deep within ourselves for resolve,

for the will power to be active,

to be creative, to be happy,

as we sit in isolation.

We wait with hope,

with the hope life outside this isolation

will again be joyful.

Aware the world will be different,

different from what we’ve known as normal.

So, with hope we will exit this isolation,

exit without expectation of the old world’s ways,

but with expectation we can make our lives,

and the lives of our family and friends, all the better,

all the better because of what we have missed.

There is nothing like the restorative power of a hug. May we soon get as many as we need.
