I loved Sly’s version back in the day, and I love the Playing For Change group and the intent behind everything they do.
And this song…oh, this song! More than ever we know that it will be “everyday people” who will embody the message, and bring the soul of our country back to us all.
Yup, Sly and the Family Stone definitely had a joyous and inclusive vibe from the very start. I always smile when I hear this song. Just one side note: Booker T and the MG’s were a racially integrated band a few years before. That, of course, takes nothing away from Sky!
Thank you for your music selections. I look forward to them every Sunday. What a stunning way to start the day! Your excellent reporting and analyses are essential as well as the curating of your musical offerings. Bring in the JOY when possible!
Another great recommendation for Reason to Smile- Willie Nelson’s Living in the Promise Land! I strongly suggest watching the YouTube version that opens with scenes from Ellis Island. Very powerful song.
This video is everything beautiful about the U.S. and, sadly, everything the Orange Cult is trying to destroy. For some reason. Thanks for reminding us (ok, me) about the (universal) joy inherent in all of us.
Oh my gosh- tears!
This is awesome- so beautiful.
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the joy. And yes, a smile for sure.
I love Playing for Change! Have been following them for several years now! Great choice!
I love this song And what a wonderful rendition of it!
terrific version, we need these everyday people, at least in US, to show up and vote against Republicans in midterms. Mahalo.

The perfect cast of compassion. Beautiful! Thanks, Dan. We all need this now more than ever.
