You’ve been a guiding light for as long as I can remember, Dan. Thank you. I’m not sure I wanna know the news from here on out, tbh. Hard to believe this is real now.

Whatever happens today, the 2024 election cycle has already begun.

Maybe I'm naive, but hopefully a leader will appear who can end this virulent polarization and unite the majority of Americans who just want a better life for themselves and their kids and grandkids. A Biden-Trump match-up would be a circus of old egos who can't let go.

Politics should be about more than just getting elected and re-elected at any cost to the nation.

Surely there is someone that a nation of 350 million can coalesce around, someone who puts country ahead of party, who puts country ahead of himself or herself. Someone who can break the collective trance that is tearing a great nation apart.

I’m intentionally staying away from social media and the minute-by-minute updates today, but I knew this post would be different. I knew you’d provide the steady hand I need today.

Yes Dan and Elliot, we have been at this point in our nation’s past. Everything seems to on the edge. However I believe the internet has profoundly altered our lives and elections and governance. It has placed facts alongside conspiracies on the same stage and many no longer care or know the difference between the two. It has sifted us into silos.

Oh that our citizens would cry out for truth, compassion and knowledge and elect those to govern accordingly. That we would be just as interested about others as ourselves.

The answers are not to be found in silos.

Us are Baby Boomers. The idealism of youth was destroyed by killings of JFK, MLK, RFK, and Malcolm X. The race riots of the late sixties and Vietnam War Television contributed to fears and traumas, especially grating with The Depression / WW2 Generation.

Thank you again Dan and Elliott for this and every post.

My wife and I voted this morning in rural NH.

I have never missed an election; my first one, 1972, the first year that 18 year-olds could vote.

I thought times were turbulent back then.

Every night, my dad and I watched Cronkite first and then managed to also tune-in to ABC and NBC before the shows came on. Have to say, Dan that I grew up with you. Please keep writing.

I think about my dad every time I read Steady.

I think the two of you might like to check out this rising journalist—Gabe Fleisher.

Here's a link to today's post by Gabe about election night: https://www.wakeuptopolitics.com/november-8-2022-2/

The second one: What can the president do about gas prices? should have been used by the Democratic party to counter the misinformation Fox News and the MAGAs hop on about energy prices:

I think Gabe has a little bit of Dan Rather in him.

Thank you again, Dan and Elliot for all you do keeping us Steady as we go.
