Your line on The Road being the best book on fatherhood has stopped my in my tracks! For myself it was the visuals and perils of a destroyed world the book conjures but of course, the steadfast belief in something better is there. That optimism and unwillingness to give up that perhaps only comes with the bond of adult and child. You’re a parent until the day you die - it’s the contract we make. Thank you!

Thank you Mr. Rather, for recognizing and quoting Mr. McCarthy. I'm also ablsolutely amazed that at my advanced age (75) I'd not heard of him. He sounds as if he was an amazing writer, and I'll be at the library tomorrow looking for his works. There are always more books than time.
