Thanks Dan. The advice on Social Security, “I believe you will see that within the next 30 to 90 days.” O’Malley added, “People should start saving now.” My answer is HOW????? I'm now 92, I have two small pensions from teaching and being a State worker. They pay my rent, health insurance and telephone. I depend on Social Security to buy food and pay my two credit cards. I live in a senior apartment, most of the residents are in worse financial shape than me. As Dr. Krugman pointed out in his column; Social Security is not a government hand out like Elon Musk receives, we paid into it most of our working lives - I paid in for 78 quarters in addition to my two government pensions. That is MY MONEY trumpslime and musk are stealing - and for what? to allow musk and trumpslime to pay ZERO in taxes - sorry I have no tears to shed for either of them.
As far as the Dems, I like James Carville's recommendation to let the R's implode over the next month and then sweep in with real solutions for the issues. American's DON'T like chaos and they are already beginning to revolt all over the country!
I was there in '92 with a model I was dating (I was also a model). Duke walked right up to her and sat us at the 2-top that was two strides away from the table Larry King always sat at, and Larry was there having lunch. Morris Udall was one arm length away, talking about his new book. I went around the corner to use the men's room and at a 2-top was David Brinkley. He looked great--having taken great care of his face. While our order was coming, Barry Manilow shows up with several in his entourage and says something to Duke, and then Duke responds. Then Duke comes right over to our table and speaks to my date (never looked at me!), telling her that Barry asked if his group gets VIP seating. Duke pointed to the autographed photo of JFK and told Barry "that's a VIP; you'll wait."
That's how Duke's was, always so many celebs for lunch.
Dan Rather and followers, please read the substack account of Malcolm Nance, an American career intelligence officer. His latest post is: URGENT WARNING: Trump is Planning to Invade Canada & Greenland.
Talking about Trump and his antics is not focusing on the real problem. Kamala warned about the Heritage Foundation and Russian connections.
It's tough to sit back and watch this going on. The Democrat's response is lame, but more disturbing is they lack a plan. A plan to win and take back control. There are at least a dozen House seats, almost 20 if you look a bit more optimistically, that are winnable. This should be goal 1. There are also at least 4 Senate seats that are in the same category. Andy Beshear needs to run for McConnell's seat for starters.
Find, build, or create candidates that can win those seats. Not just whoever happens to come along, those that can win in those districts/states. Someone who simply appeals to the left 50% of the party and wins the nomination may not be the candidate that can win. Find a few dozen "Obamas"; heck have them spend time with Obama or his campaign people.
And who is the leader of the party? It's not Schumer or Jeffries. Bernie can be a great inspirer, but the party needs a leader who can deliver a message in 10 minutes or less. It needs to be a quick highlight of the Trump/Muskrat damage and deliver a message that resonates to a majority of the people. Is it Elissa Slotkin? She certainly needs a leading role. But we need a couple, three more to have in 2028. And, as much as I hate to say this, from a practical standpoint, one of those needs to me a white, middle-aged, straight, Chrisitan white guy. Why? If for some odd, very odd reason, Trump's term isn't the disaster we believe it will be, that person will need to be the candidate to win in 2028. Don't push the envelope if it doesn't get you the win.
For the next four years, "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing".
I live in a very red state and his supporters think it’s only democrats complaining about what’s happening. They think all will calm down soon and everything will be great. They only listen to far right media and think the majority of the country thinks exactly like they do. I’m not kidding, it’s sickening. Now it’s seen as supporting Trump to pay higher prices and not complain. I see no way where our country will ever be united again. I have lost even more respect for my republican friends and neighbors. The future is bleak indeed when some Americans cheer the suffering of others. I have little hope things will get better anytime in the near future.
We have to have a message. Not a laundry list of all that is wrong, not attacking dear leader, but something very short, concise that gets into their heads.
Unfortunately, living in a Red state, it sure hasn’t help writing to our representatives! The responses we get are all basically the same when we compare notes with each other: The President received a mandate and we are allowing him to choose his own cabinet members OR I am supporting the president’s choice for this cabinet position after speaking with them and listening to them respond to my questions.
Forget OUR questions and concerns, those of YOUR CONSTITUENTS!
They are following along with the GOP leader and they are NOT coming home to speak with us because they were told not to!
They don't give a rat's ass about what you say, but they do keep count. As the number of people pushing back starts to threaten their existence, you're making inroads.
After about half a dozen calls/emails to my two GOP senators, I finally just got an email back from one of them (the one bankrolled by Peter Thiel) saying that he welcomes comments from his constituents. That was it. Worse than useless.
Trump is a very sick disgusting person. The Republican Party has a combined zero backbone. The 53 senators are afraid of their own shadow. If the had any common sense they could put a stop to this mess. The House is even worse. they are lead by a smiling moron who just kisses trumps rear. All this could have been avoided if the spineless senator Mitch McConnell voted guilty in the 2nd impeachment trial. The only way out of this mess is vote blue. Just 3 seats and the Democrats will regain the house and then they can put an end to trump
Where are the Democrat elected officials? Where is their outrage? We can't wait for the 2026 election, it will be too late. Where are the former presidents? Obama has a huge following, money and security protection, why is he so silent? Where is Kamala? The Clintons? The Biden's? Why don't they say anything? I think Bernie is the only one out there speaking publicly. I think the time for polite protocol and decorum is over..... I'm scared.
There is a world of difference between local politics which are truly about local services. Water, sewer, parks and libraries, public safety with local police and fire.
Encouraging idiots to become involved in local politics with the thought that this will control DC is crazy thinking. Municipalities don't have that power. All that will do is disrupt local government so that it can become as chaotic as DC.
What will make a difference is stepping out of the echo chamber of misinformation and voting for people. Backing someone because they are R or D is stupid. Vote for people not parties, or just don't vote.
We need to make talking about politics good again.
How I detest Trump and EVERYTHING about him.
Thank you, Dan and Team Steady.
Ask not what my country can do for me. Ask what I can do for my country.

"The R's imploding"- your lips to God's ears.
What really bothers me is that there were republicans that I thought had honor and would do right. They are giving in to bullies.
Totally agree!!
I get that but they need to do something now it’s already getting too late. It’s called checks and balances.
And he will keep the chaos going as he doesn't really have a plan. His baseline his chaos.
Dan, remember Duke's on CT avenue?

Assuming we have any more elections, Jay. I certainly wouldn't bet the farm on it.
