I thank goodness for two politicians who reached out to help Texans: Beto O'Rourke and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. This is called "bipartisan", and "reaching across the aisle".

As a retired school principal, I knew the benefit of being prepared. We had written plans to follow for all types of emergencies, supplies that were checked and restocked as necessary, practices with students, staff and faculty and notices to parents so that everyone would be alert and know what to do if the unthinkable happened. So I was alarmed and surprised that our federal government didn’t have a plan for the pandemic. Leaders ran around around like the proverbial chicken and seemingly intelligent people spouted what the president wanted them to say...all false and misleading information. The terrible emergency in Texas breaks my heart for the people who live there, but it doesn’t surprise me anymore. Nothing does. For five years I’ve watched disasters and listened to lies. I’ve seen our elected officials give approval to false news and incompetent and immoral behavior. And the lowest blow was their tacit complicity in the terrorist attack on our government. After that,I decided that no one cares. We elect people who look good without a thought in their head. We elect people whose lies we believe. We elect people who want power for power’s sake. It’s time we grew up. It’s time we paid more attention and elect decent, smart, dedicated people who actually want to help. Our government had plans for disaster. The prior leader decided he knew better. What a joke! But we are now living the result of that joke. As we move forward, and I believe we will, I hope we all give more thought to what’s going on and become an informed electorate. That will save our country and it will save us. Thanks, Mr Rather for continuing to write in the face of this disaster.
