Trunp's SAVE his ass act would disenfranchise women who often change their name when they marry. Also why isn't election day a national holiday?

Curious that the donald has been going after mail-in balloting when one would imagine that same-day voter registration and voting (allowed in some states) would be more likely to generate some fraud. Is there a map showing which states allow same-day registration and voting and the "blue" or "red" dominant political characteristics of such states?

My grandmother, who was 98 at the time, voted in 2016. Granted, she didn’t always know me, her favorite and only granddaughter; but she knew she always voted Republican. Is that fraud? My daughter with autism was auto-sent a registration to vote. Granted, I returned, noting her ineligibility. Would it have been caught otherwise? Is that potentially fraud for her to vote Democrat based on her needs? When removing a second address where my absentee ballot was mailed, I was given a colonoscopy by the township. Point: System worked in preventing obvious potential fraud. But it relies on personal integrity also, there lies a complexity. No answer, just my experience with voting process.

Dan, the magic number is 126.

Days, that is. Until the midterm elections. The election that Donald Trump knows he's going to lose by a margin never before seen in US history. He knows this to a certainty. He also knows the consequences of losing control of both houses of Congress. Curtains, baby. Curtains for him. Curtains for his Crooked Cabinet. Curtains for his crooked relatives. Daylight in that whole room full of roaches that is Donald Trump's life.

Unless something is done to upset the election, of course. But how does he do this? Time is running short....

Door #1 is to butcher the process until it looks like Frankenstein, so no one can trust it anymore. But so far, our pesky legal system has thwarted his carving knife. Hence Dan's story tonight. Tick tok, tick tok...

Dorr #2 is to buy the election. With enough money you can do most anything. Doesn't hurt when you have the richest guys on Earth owing you favors, does it? 2024 anyone? But this is very obvious, only to be used as a last resort. Could be trouble down the line. But it IS a very real solution. Everyone knows greed works.

Door #3 is to intimidate voters en masse through the use of military force. Now this sounds right up Donnie's alley. He loves playing toy soldier. Just look at his recent rash of world adventures. Why not declare martial law and use the muscle he actually has? Who's to stop him? The military is now decapitated, courtesy of Pistol Pete. A real King doesn't allow a few lousy laws to slow him down. Not when his very skin is on the line. This is more like it! Vladimir would be proud! Good odds on this one.

Door #4 is Donnie trips over his own sociopathy, and screws it all up. The election takes place, he loses it all, and he jumps on his new Qatari 757 and flies to his dacha in Russia, one step ahead of the federal marshals. TACO.

That's about it. We all know he's got to do SOMETHING, and will.

Which door will he choose?

Two observations. First, this court has dealt some serious blows this term and there are still more cases to drop. So many norms and precedents and procedures set aside, not to mention the absolute hypocrisy of the religious freedom case and the Hawaii case. Second, I wonder what this does to the Virginia gerrymandering case. It seems to undermine that court’s premise for tossing out the millions of VA votes that supported the new congressional map.

Was a good win.. there are days though that the bar is set so low for those Justices to even meet the expectations of adhering to the Constitution..

"The president must be seething."

And I would add "shaking". I think he knows if the Republicans lose the House AND the Senate he and his cronies may be in big trouble. A coup is his likely backup plan IMO.

He should have paid that money, plus the other for defamation a long time ago!!! Also, he hasn't taken down the tarp off of the Kennedy Center!!!! WTF???

another dumb take by another dumb partisan. I think platner has fire roasted all of your brains. Your rage at Trump is shutting down critical thinking centers of what is left of your minds.

Might be… sorry my free speech offended. Ha, just kidding.

Thank you for this article, Mr. Rather. It is important to note that the President made the U.S. Post Office change its long-standing policy of dating mail that is put in a mailbox on a daily basis. This was a subtle move to disenfranchise mail-in voters. Please remember to go inside and ask to have your ballots dated. I even do that with all my bills.

Tom Massie is right. I can abide conservative policies, up to a point, knowing that they can be reversed down the road. What infuriates me is the greed, the hoarding, and the ill-considered destruction of time-honoured institutions.

I love how only the lame duck Republicans speak their mind on how this shitshow is slowly moving along.

Massie's critique hits the nail on the head clearly, concisely and forthrightly. Contrast that with anything Hakeem Jeffries has squeaked about in his monotone, inert voice - as energetic and convincing as a possum. Heaven help us if Pelosi swings her weight around to make him Speaker of the House. He didn't have the acumen nor the decency to endorse Mamdani and the other democratic socialists proving, once again, between mega AIPAC donations and steering a corporatized blah agenda helping no one but the DNC's consulting class and the DNC bigwigs stay in control, Hakeem is our corporate minion. We must help him retire to the fat paying lobbyist gang so we can get to choose fresh blood carrying fire in the belly in service of the needs of the workers who stand strong, determined and resolute with a sigh of relief instead of quaking like sissies when the word "socialist" is heard.

Thank you for your unwavering and continued support of Democracy, Mr. Rather (& team). I think it's important to talk about why mail-in voting is important, and not just who is more likely to use it. DJT's objection and "trumped up" disregard are related to how those votes often fall, but it is relevant that in this country voting everywhere by all eligible voters is not significantly easier. Anyone who works a job where getting time off is difficult or results in unpaid time, anyone who works multiple jobs just to make ends meet, anyone who relies on public transportation, anyone who cares for others, all need flexibility without giving up their representation. If Republicans or other parties want to be better represented in mail-in voting, they need to make their case by virtue of their platforms and performance in office, not be restricting mail-in voting.
