Of all the choked emotion in this poem (I love that it's a poem), what strikes me most is how we all, all of America, have squandered our wealth. We have so much, and like wealthy people we cannot see when what we are spending our energy, our neighbors and our souls on is shoddy and made at the cost of other people's opportunity. Let's spend our wealth to set a foundation for a good tomorrow.

Yes, this is a day that still stops me in my tracks. I am also astonished, and saddened, when I consider the state of our union today. I cope by working voter registrations, being a poll watcher, writing postcards reminding citizens to vote, and donating to campaigns as I am able. Tomorrow, I will grieve for those who perished and the families left with fractured hearts. On Monday, I will wake up and get back to work on saving our democracy.
